Teen driving tragedies strike repeatedly
In just the past few days, readers of Boston newspapers have been seen several articles about tragic car accidents involving teen drivers. In a Sunday accident in Ohio involving a speeding SUV driven by a teen, six young people lost their lives.
In a Texas crash that same day, five more teenagers died in a fiery accident when the car they were in ran a stop sign and was broadsided by an 18-wheeler.
These are indescribable tragedies for the teenagers who lost their lives and for their grieving families.
In both cases, it appears the tragedies stemmed from young drivers making rash, poor driving decisions. In the Ohio accident, the young woman at the wheel of the stolen SUV was reportedly going up to 80 mph around a curve in a 35 mph zone when she lost control of the vehicle.
In the Texas accident, the teen driver for some reason went through a stop sign. The Chevrolet Cruze was hit on the passenger side by a tanker loaded with fuel.
Two of the teenagers in the Cruze were sisters, 17 years old and 15 years old, from a town of about 15,000 people, Dumas, just north of Amarillo, in the panhandle.
Law enforcement officials said all the teenagers died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the commercial truck is reportedly in critical condition with burns covering two-thirds of his body.
There is no doubt that for him, too, this accident has had tragic consequences that might well have a negative impact on him for the rest of his life.
