Officer Injured Following Vehicle Collision in Dorchester
A vehicle collision in Dorchester resulted in a Boston police officer being injured on Tuesday night, as a suspect attempting to flee the scene struck him with a car, police reported. The incident unfolded when officers responded to a call at 33 Stanton St. around 11:36 p.m. regarding a person with a gun, according to a news release from the Boston Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers encountered four men gathered around two parked cars in a no-trespassing zone. As the officers exited their cruisers, two of the men allegedly jumped over a fence toward Norfolk Street, while another suspect jumped into one of the cars and attempted to escape. The vehicle accelerated towards the officers “at a high rate of speed,” striking one officer and forcing him onto the hood before he rolled off to the side.
In the ensuing chaos, officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects in the parking lot, placing him in handcuffs. They pursued the two men who had jumped the fence and located another suspect near 234 Norfolk St., who was also handcuffed. During the arrest, officers allegedly recovered a firearm from the suspect’s shorts pocket.
The arrested individuals were identified as Markeith Walton, 21, of Marlborough, and Robert Scott, 26, of Mattapan. Walton faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and trespassing. Additionally, Walton had an outstanding warrant for multiple firearm offenses. Scott was charged with trespassing. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in the Dorchester division of Boston Municipal Court.
The second car remained unoccupied in the parking lot, where officers reportedly saw a firearm in plain view on the passenger seat. A subsequent search of the area revealed a large-capacity magazine loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. Officers also discovered another firearm a few feet from the fence that the suspects had jumped over. The weapons were identified as a Polymer 80 with one round in the chamber, a Smith and Wesson M&P with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine, and a Glock 43 with six rounds in the magazine.
