Mansfield man suspected of speeding in fatal car crash

Law enforcement officials say they are still investigating a fatal car accident early yesterday morning involving a man from Mansfield, Massachusetts.

A Vermont woman was killed in the collision just after midnight in Claremont, New Hampshire.

“Speed appears to have been a factor and everything else is under investigation,” Claremont’s police chief said.

Officials said a 29-year-old Mansfield man was driving his Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck on the town’s main street when the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and slammed into a minivan driven by a 42-year-old Vermont woman.

She died later in the day of injuries sustained in the collision.

She had a 13-year-old boy in her Pontiac van at the time of the crash; he was hospitalized with unspecified injuries. He was listed in serious condition.

The Mansfield man was also hospitalized and was listed in fair condition.

Police said that they have evidence that the pick-up was speeding at the time of the collision.

No charges have yet been filed in the case.

Elsewhere, a Springfield, Massachusetts, family is struggling to come to terms with a fatal crash that took the life of a 55-year-old grandmother as she was on her way to a family Easter weekend.

Police say the woman was killed in a crash caused by a 25-year-old man who then fled the scene.

He has been charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death. He also faces charges of drug possession.
