Burlington Officer Injured in SUV Crash
Burlington Officer Injured: A Burlington officer was injured Wednesday morning when an SUV struck him while he was working a construction detail. The injured officer, Sgt. Timothy Kirchner, has been a reserve Burlington police officer since retiring in June and was stationed at an Eversource work site detail at 34 Cambridge St. when the incident occurred.
At around 11:45 a.m., a Chevrolet Equinox suddenly jumped the curb and collided with Sgt. Kirchner, according to the Burlington Police Department.
The impact was so severe that it threw him into the air before he landed on the SUV. The crash left Sgt. Kirchner with significant injuries to his arm and leg. Emergency medical responders treated him at the scene before transporting him to Lahey Hospital.
The driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old man from Reading, was reportedly attempting to park the vehicle when he mistakenly hit the gas pedal, resulting in the collision.
Fortunately, a second officer present at the scene acted quickly to assist the driver in stopping the SUV and then immediately turned his attention to aiding Sgt. Kirchner. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officials, who are now investigating the crash alongside state police.
Compensation at Stake for Victims of Vehicle Accidents
Accidents like the one involving Sgt. Kirchner can have devastating effects on victims and their families. In cases where serious injuries are sustained, victims may be entitled to substantial compensation to cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and other damages related to their physical and emotional suffering.
In Sgt. Kirchner’s case, his injuries could lead to significant medical bills, ongoing treatment, and loss of income due to an inability to work during his recovery.
Beyond the immediate financial burdens, victims also experience long-term impacts, including the cost of future medical care, therapy, or surgeries, especially when the injuries are as severe as those sustained in this incident.
Compensation is not just limited to covering medical bills—it can also address the emotional toll an accident has on the victim and their family.
When serious injuries prevent a victim from returning to work, they may be eligible for compensation that includes lost future earnings. Pain and suffering damages, which reflect the emotional distress caused by an accident, can also be part of the compensation claim.
