Cop accused in hit-and-run pedestrian crash

Boston media outlets are reporting that a former New Hampshire police officer has been accused of being in a hit-and-run car accident that injured two teenaged pedestrians.

The Manchester man was fired from that city’s police department after an investigation into the allegations.

The 41-year-old is accused of hitting the boys, 17 and 18 years old, and fleeing as one teen lay in the road with head injuries that include bleeding on his brain.

The other boy suffered a broken right elbow. He ran to a neighbor’s house; the neighbor, a nurse, called 911 and went to help the other boy.

Police found broken auto parts at the scene, later matching a plastic lens piece to the damaged front end of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder issued to the former undercover officer by the Manchester Police Department.

Officers also matched a clothing imprint on the SUV to one of the victims.

Both teens are said to be recovering from their injuries.

The man was fired after 17 years on the force for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and for his use of an undercover vehicle while not on duty.

Court documents indicate that the boy with the broken elbow told officials that as the Nissan approached him and his friend, they backed away to the edge of the road, where they were hit. Afterwards, the Nissan slowed at a stop sign and then drove off.

Evidence indicates that the vehicle left the road then came back on it just before it came to the stop sign, investigators said.

The former officer had apparently been visiting a colleague who has a son with cancer. The former officer was dropping off funds collected for the colleague’s son’s treatment.

Media reports do not indicate that the former cop was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
