New Hampshire Police Officer Injured in a Hit-and-Run Accident
A New Hampshire police officer, Officer Kyle Cordero, was injured and hospitalized after being involved in a hit-and-run incident on Thursday. According to a statement released by the Amherst Police Department, the accident occurred while officers were responding to an earlier crash on Route 101A at approximately 9:30 a.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a rollover motor vehicle accident that had left utility wires hanging dangerously low across the roadway. As officers worked diligently to clear the area and ensure the safety of those nearby, a truck unexpectedly drove through the crash scene, striking the low-hanging utility wires.
This sudden impact caused a telephone pole to collapse, striking Officer Cordero in the legs and knocking him to the ground.
The truck driver involved in the hit-and-run did not stop to assist. Instead, they continued driving and fled the scene, leaving Officer Cordero injured. Fortunately, Officer Cordero was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. After receiving medical attention, he was released from the hospital later that same afternoon.
Although the investigation into the hit-and-run remains ongoing, Amherst police have identified the truck involved. However, the name of the suspect has not been released as of yet. The department continues to work on gathering evidence and holding the responsible party accountable for their actions.
The Amherst Police Department expressed its gratitude to the community for their support and patience throughout the incident. “This event highlights the critical importance of drivers remaining vigilant and adhering to traffic laws, particularly in accident zones where officers are actively working to secure the area,” the department’s statement emphasized. In moments like these, the need for public cooperation and caution is crucial to preventing further harm.
